The state Treasury Department has named Tony Saunders II to be the new emergency financial manager in Benton Harbor, effective February 1. He will take over for Joseph Harris, who will exit at the end of this month. Treasury spokesman Terry Stanton says Saunders has been working for about the last year for the department helping the Detroit suburb of Highland Park.
Saunders is currently a partner with WYLD Marketing Group, which provides according to a press release from Treasury, marketing strategies, solutions and support. Before that, he was the Chief of Staff for Detorit City Councilwoman Saunteel Jenkins and Senior Advisor for Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh. Saunders is a University of Michigan graduate. Current EFM Joe Harris is scheduled to hold a press conference next Wednesday afternoon at Benton Harbor City Hall to discuss financial issues related to the city.
