Two Benton Harbor men remain locked up in the Berrien County Jail for a shooting last Friday that injured a 12-year-old girl. The Berrien County Prosecutor's Office has added new felony charges against 24-year-old Jakeeme Griffin and 18-year-old Juan Hassel, Jr. They are now both charged with assault with intent to murder, felony firearms and firearms violations. Griffin and Hassel were originally arrested on firearms violations charges. According to the Benton Township Police Department, the two opened fire during a disturbance at 1051 Harbor Court last Friday afternoon. The young girl was shot in the hip and was not involved in what the suspects were fighting about. No additional information has been released as yet by authorities.
