New Buffalo Mayor, Councilmember Ousted In Tuesday Recall

Voters in the city of New Buffalo removed Mayor Margaret "Migs" Murray and City Councilmember Ray Lawson from office in Tuesday's recall election. Donna Messinger was elected mayor with 341 votes compared to 146 for Murray and 14 for Si-Osiri. Lawson was defeated by George Scarlatis, who outdistanced the incumbent by 200 votes. The final tally in that race was 348-148. According to Berrien County Clerk Sharon Tyler, voter turnout in New Buffalo was over 40% for Tuesday's election.

This story is a corrected version of the original, which posted Tuesday night and mistakenly identified Mayor-elect Donna Messinger as the incumbent.
