Nesbitt And Proos Preview Governor Sndyer's State Of State

Governor Snyder delivers his third "State of the State" address tonight in Lansing. The governor says one of his themes will be an effort to match job vacancies in Michigan with those who have the skills for those jobs, which Representative Aric Nesbitt of Lawton says sounds good to him.

Snyder also will announce plans for at least two summits in the near future. One will be an economic development summit in March on the jobs issue. State Senator John Proos says getting people pointed toward the right job early is needed.

Governor Snyder is also expected to revive his effort from last year's State of the State, to come up with a way to raise needed revenue for roads. One report that's floated around Lansing for well over a year says the state needs at least $1.4 billion more for roads and bridges, just to keep them in "good" condition. One idea suggested last year by Governor Snyder to increase auto registration fees by $120 per vehicle has been largely ignored or opposed outright by most legislators. The governor said earlier this week that his proposal on Wednesday will not include a tax increase.
