NRC Announces Additional Palisades Inspections



Four leaks in four months is equaling 1,000 additional hours of inspection at the Palisades nuclear power plant from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in 2013. The NRC is deviating from their normal inspection process by adding the extra inspections at a plant that has been steadily improving. Mitlyng said Palisades was set to be removed from the list of the poorest performing facilities in the country due to the progress made over the past year. The extra inspection hours are intended to both improve the organization and strengthen the safety culture and make sure the leaks from this year are understoond and not repeated.
