NAACP Wants To Help Benton Harbor Students

Certain community members are brain storming ways in dealing with troubled students and parents who are a part of Benton Harbor Area Schools. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Twin Cities Chapter held an emergency meeting and panel discussion Thursday night. In attendance was NAACP President Pastor James Atterberry, Benton Harbor Superintendent Dr. Leonard Seawood and School Board President Barbara Bell, she wished the meeting would have been more full.

A 200-student brawl that took place in the city last week was not the main focus of the meeting. Many in attendance hit on those students lifestyles and lack of educational effort. Some feel a "zero tolerance" policy should be enacted at the schools. Meaning you break one rule, you're out. Everyone agreed more meetings need to be scheduled, but more importantly action needs to be taken.
