Man Quesitoned After Approaching St. Joseph Middle School Students At Bus Stop

Two students from St. Joseph's Upton Middle School escaped unharmed after being approached by a man in his 50s Wednesday morning while waiting for the school bus. It happened on South State Street near Wells Field, and Superintendent Ann Cardon says there were several parents at the bus stop who witnessed the event as well.

Listen:

St. Joseph Public Safety officers identified the man and spoke with him yesterday afternoon. He first asked the boys if they needed a ride to school, and after they declined, offered to drive them to Coloma. They again said no, and he was questioned by an officer after calling police to get his car unlocked at a nearby business a short time later. Cardon put out a letter to parents through email just before school was let out for the day. Students were not told of the incident at all by their teachers or administrators. The case is now in the hands of the Berrien County Prosecutor's office.
