MSP Trooper Maurice Burton On Bullying: "Start Making A Stand"

Change can be made by simply talking to a bully, according to State Trooper Maurice Burton, who spoke at a meeting of Benton Harbor's Legislative Committee Wednesday.

City Commissioners have taken up the task of ending bullying in the city. Some support an ordinance to make harmful behavior illegal, which would hold parents responsible. Burton says cyber-bullying is on the rise among youth.

Burton says bullying is no longer just a physical problem, social media has taken bullying from the playground to inside the home. In a recent survey, he says 42% of students have been cyber-bullied, while 53% have written something hurtful online. Outside help won't work, Burton says bullying needs to be stopped from within the community.
