Berrien and Van Buren County have been selected by the Michigan Department of Transportation to receive a portion of funds to upgrade roads on commercial routes. Nine Michigan counties will use $2.7-million in Transportation Economic Development Fund grants to upgrade roads in urban areas, Barbara Hicks with MDOT says the roads will be upgraded to "all-season" status.
In Berrien, the City of Coloma will get nearly $350,000 to reconstruct, resurface and make sidewalk ramp upgrades to Paw Paw Street from Center Street to the Paw Paw River Bridge. In Van Buren, the village of Paw Paw will receive $375,000 to reconstruct and make drainage improvements to a portion of West Michigan Avenue from the west village limits to Gremps Street. Hicks says the counties aren't getting the money for free.
The projects will be completed with nearly $1.9-million in local matching funds.
