The Michigan Department of Transportation is opening up a public comment period on the plans for replacing the M-139 Main Street bridge in Niles over the St. Joseph River. MDOT's Bob Parsons tells WSJM the bridge is safe but does need to be replaced, as it's getting very old.
Parsons says MDOT has wrapped up its Environmental Assessment of the project, and that is now available to be studied at City Hall in Niles along with the Niles District Library and at MDOT's Coloma Transportation Center in Benton Harbor. The state is looking to replace the bridge in 2014.
