Lighthouse Forever Fund Reaches $400,000

A new high-water mark has been set for money raised for the Lighthouse Forever Fund to secure $2-million to restore and preserve St. Joseph's inner and outer lighthouses. Fund Committee Chairman Bob Judd says $400,000 has been raised since May.

The most recent donations to the fund have come from the Hanson Family Foundation, Frederick S. Upton Foundation, and the Vail Rubber Co., among others.

Judd says the money will not only help preserve the lights, but rather return them to a previous state which will allow the public to go inside and tour them. There are three levels of work that needs to be done to the structures.

The third category is detailed restoration to doors, windows and the like. Those interested in donating can visit for more information.
