A new national ranking of hospitals is placing a local medical center in the top one-hundred. Lakeland Regional Medical Center of St. Joseph and Lakeland Community Hospital of Niles were ranked by Truven Health Analytics in its annual study. The top hospitals are evaluated in ten performance areas: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average patient stay, expenses, profitability and patient satisfaction just to name a few. Lakeland President CEO Dr. Loren Hamel says the ranking is important for the community.
This is the first time Lakeland HealthCare has been ranked in the top one-hundred. The federal government recognizes the two hospitals as a single entity, thus the recognition applies to both.
