Kinexus Secures Manufacturing Apprenticeship Training Grant

Thirteen local manufacturers are getting some financial help from the state of Michigan's Skilled Trades Training Fund for apprenticeships. Kinexus secured over $47,000 in grant money to be split up, supplementing the costs for 45 trainees to upgrade their skills in tool and die, mold making or CNC machining. Corey Carolla is the Director of Business and Industry for Kinexus and worked with the state on the grant.

The training will be done through Lake Michigan College using its advanced manufacturing curricula called Tooling U. It's an online training program which recently deemed the college a Platinum Education Center. That recognizes programs that are particularly active in addressing the current and future needs of manufacturers and works to close the skills gap. Corolla adds some of their work is also done helping manufacturing companies get up to speed, as several have not updated their apprenticeship programs in 10 to 15 years.

Participating manufacturers are Dane Systems, Vail Rubber Works, Accu Die & Mold, AUSCO Products, C & S Machine Products, Dura Mold, Gaishin Manufacturing, Great Lakes Precision Machine, Hanson Mold, Kelm Acubar, Mach Mold, M & I Machine, and Niles Precision Company.
