The Humane Society of Southwest Michigan is closed today, but is expected to reopen to the public this week. Executive director Jill Svoboda tells WSJM the rumor mill has exploded on the Internet, and the reality is they're just out of a vital commodity...
The Benton Township Fire Department has been providing water for the shelter so the animals have what they need. Svoboda says the well stopped working Monday afternoon. She says right now they don't know if it's the pump or the well itself that's the problem. Several well drillers are going to be on site today to figure it out and get either something new dug or get the old well fixed. The shelter currently has 75 dogs and about 115 cats, with a waiting list to adopt the animals.
