Governor Snyder says the state needs to increase its use of renewable energy, but declined in a special message to lawmakers this week to lay out what level he wants to see. Senator John Proos agrees with the governor that a new plan needs to be developed.
Snyder also called for a summit of Great Lakes states governors and Canadian premiers on Mackinac island to talk about protecting the Great Lakes from invasive species. He wants more natural gas to be produced in Michigan and is an advocate of fracking to draw it out of the earth. Governor Snyder is calling for a natural gas strategic reserve as well, calling it a clearner and "much better" alternative to coal.
