Governor Snyder has a message for debate moderators, President Obama and Mitt Romney: please stop talking about the auto industry bailout and find something relevant to discuss. The governor said nobody has talked to him about the bailouts in a year, adding they worked.
The rescues of General Motors and Chrysler were funded by both the American and Canadian federal governments starting under President George W. Bush. They were expanded by President Obama, and Chrysler has paid the government back nearly all of the money it was loaned to get through bankruptcy. The Annenberg Public Policy Center's Fact Check website indicates the Treasury Department has written off $1.3 billion of Chrysler's $12.5 billion loan.
