Details on a settlement to get a large chunk of downtown Gobles cleaned up will likely be bantered about Tuesday night. The City Commission is expected to hear from the city attorney on an agreement with business and property owner Jan Wescott, whose Jan's Trailside Cafe went up in flames last April and took several other businesses with it. Mayor Carol Johnson told the "Kalamazoo Gazette" recently that part of the agreement between Wescott and the city includes the property being fenced in and having it cleaned up within six months. Wescott had told city officials nothing had been done for nearly a year after the fire because they'd been trying to reach a settlement with their insurance company.
