A new law aimed to prevent the sexual abuse of children has been enacted by Governor Snyder. Senator John Proos sponsored "Erin's Law," and says it will create a task force to find ways to educate kids on sexual abuse prevention in schools and develop an age-appropriate curriculum.
The law is named for sexual abuse survivor Erin Merryn of Illinois. She was in Berrien County last year to talk about her goal of making sure no other children have to remain silent and know who to talk to if it happens to them. Merryn testified before the state House and Senate, and wants every state to pass the law. Her home state passed it in 2011.
