Entergy, Palisades Avoid NRC Fines With Security Procedure Reforms



Entergy and the Palisades nuclear power plant are making changes to be sure they are properly verifying the training credentials of staff and management across Entergy's entire fleet. The moves come in response to the failure to verify the qualifications of a security supervisor to perform specific security duties at Palisades in December 2012. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Viktoria Mitlyng says the settlement was reached under the NRC's Alternative Dispute Resolution process.

Mitlyng says a manager needed to find someone to fill in on a job for a few hours, and failed to verify the qualifications of the person selected. The NRC evaluated the matter and determined it was of very low security significance.
