South Haven Emergency Services officers are putting out a reminder that ice on ponds and inland lakes is not thick enough to support people or animals yet. That fact was on full display Sunday morning when SHAES responded to a 911 call for a dog struggling about 150 feet from shore in a pond off of 8th Avenue in Geneva Township. Officers put on ice water rescue suits and crawled out on the ice to rescue the animal. The dog had fallen through the ice and has since been reunited with his owner.
