Direct Flights From South Bend To NYC Market Start In October

Business in southwest Michigan is getting a boost this fall. Starting in late October, United will offer direct nonstop flights from South Bend International Airport to Newark, New Jersey, just a half-hour outside of New York City. Cornerstone Alliance president Vicki Pratt calls it critical for attracting new businesses.

Mike Daigle is the South Bend airport's executive director and tells WSJM News the new route has been in the making for quite some time.

Pratt says the new route will help a great deal in attracting new businesses to the entire region.

The first flight from Newark Liberty International Airport will arrive the evening of October 26, with the first flights out of South Bend set for October 27 at 6:20 a.m. United is investing $6 million in the new route. The Newark airport is just 30 minutes outside of New York City. The flights will be once-daily leaving South Bend in the morning and returning from Newark in the evening, landing at 9:13 p.m. Daigle noted New York City is the "number one unserved market for the Michiana community until today." Tickets are available now through United's website.
