Developers Not Abandoning CVS Plans Yet; Meeting With Neighbors

They're not ready to give up. The Indianapolis-based developers who want to build a CVS Pharmacy in the city of St. Joseph are meeting tonight with people who live in the immediate area to go over issues brought up before the St. Joseph Planning Commission earlier this month. Developer Eric Harvey says it's a private get-together with those who could possibly be directly impacted.

Harvey and his business partners plan to return to the Planning Commission on April 10th with a new rezoning request for property at Niles and Napier avenues on the south side of the city. They want to build a 13,000 square foot facility where Florin Funeral Home now stands, as the funeral home will be moving out to a new location. Harvey believes the November 1st target date for having CVS open can still be hit if an agreement is reached.

A Myrtle Avenue resident was able to get over 130 signatures on a petition seeking to stop the plans, arguing his street is already congested enough without adding the pharmacy chain to the mix. Other concerns center around the ravine.

The April 10th Planning Commission meeting will be at 4:30 p.m. at St. Joseph City Hall.
