The loss of transmission to two substations early Friday morning resulted in power outages for about 26-hundred Midwest Energy Cooperative customers in Van Buren County. Severe storms swept through the area around three AM, damaging the AEP transmission lines that serve Midwest Energy's Paw Paw and Bloomingdale Substations. Co-op officials were in contact with AEP through the day, and say that AEP crews continued to work on restoration efforts through the late afternoon
Once transmission is restored to the substations, Midwest Energy Cooperative crews will be able to determine if there is any further damage to the cooperative's distribution system. Also on Friday, Indiana Michigan Power said that around two-thousand customers were still without power in Berrien County, and around five-thousand in Van Buren County, as of six PM.
