Crash Injures Five Teens

Distracted driving gets the blame for a car accident early Sunday morning that sent five teenagers to the hospital in Cass County. The sheriff's department says 17-year-old Devin Cromer of St. Joseph told them he got distracted around 4:30 in the morning, went off the road on Downey Street in Silver Creek Township and hit a tree. Three teenage girls from Dowagiac and one teenage boy from Eau Claire were hurt along with the driver. Four were sent to Lakeland Hospital in Niles, while one was taken to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac. All five were wearing seat belts, and there was no alcohol involved in the crash. What caused Cromer to get distracted hasn't been disclosed.
