Columbia Township Firefighter Fired For Crash Response

Responding to the scene of a crash without heading to the fire station first has a man out of a job with the Columbia Township Fire Department. WWMT-TV reports Michael Freislinger had been warned several times to stop doing that, and after he showed up at a triple-fatal crash site in South Haven last week, his job as an on-call firefighter was terminated. He says he wasn't aware he had been put on probation by his chief. Department policy only allows the chief, assistant chief and captain to go to a call without stopping at the station for gear first. Our calls to the Columbia Township Fire Department have not been returned.
