City Of St. Joseph Fires Deputy Public Safety Director

St. Joseph City Manager Richard Lewis dropped a bombshell Tuesday morning with the announcement that Deputy Public Safety Director Al DiBrito is out of a job. The action followed at least one internal investigation and a third party probe.

The initial internal investigation in January looked into alleged misconduct by Public Safety Director Mark Clapp. He was cleared of any wrongdoing for that undisclosed matter. However, during the investigation, it was learned he had made comments regarding DiBrito which were determined to be inappropriate for a commanding officer to make regarding his second in command.

Clapp will serve a week of unpaid leave starting on Monday, May 12. All the city will say concerning DiBrito's firing is there were complaints voiced by several Public Safety Officers regarding the overall conduct of the deputy director and it was determined that it would be harmful to the city to keep him employed.
As for who will be in command of the Department of Public Safety during that week, Lewis would only say he would follow up with WSJM News.

The full statement from Lewis can be heard here, and runs for two and a half minutes.
