Benton Harbor City Commissioner Trenton Bowens is making it official. He's done as an elected official in the city as of September 1. Bowens released his resignation letter Tuesday night, calling it nearly impossible to make changes in the city, quote, "when a few members of the city commission are not focused on working together." He goes on to criticize the redevelopments in downtown Benton Harbor and around Harbor Shores, saying it appears there are now two different cities. Bowens calls one the quote, "old, run-down part of the city where all the residents live that resembles a war zone and a new, vibrant downtown area that is beginning to resemble Martha's Vineyard." He called for pulling tax breaks for companies in the city and suggests looking into a casino to bring in more money.
