A West Chester, Illinois woman is recovering today after a near drowning in Chikaming Township, and one local official says it's all thanks to some good Samaritans and new technology. Chikaming Township Police Chief James Stormont says when officers arrived at the near-drowning off Lakeshore Drive; bystanders were already doing CPR on Nancy Reynolds.
Stormont says the Reynolds had to be transported by a New Buffalo Police boat to the Chikaming Police Beach Control, because officers couldn't continue CPR and carry her up the fight of beach stairs. He says she was taken by boat to the beach access and transferred by Medic 1 to Saint Anthony Hospital in Michigan City, Indiana. Stormont says it took serious coordination and team work to pull that off.
Stormont says the departments haven't been synced with those radios until the last couple years.
Stormont says the boat and Beach Patrol unit were also helpful. A family friend tells Stormont Reynolds is in stable condition.
