Berrien County is Interested in Purchasing Land to Grow One of its Parks

Neighboring land to Love Creek Park is available for purchase and Berrien County is seeking a state grant to buy it. There is a 26-acre parcel of land that lies between two sections of the park, and a purchase would fill the gap. Landowners, Dale and Johannah Simpson of Berrien Center have offered to sell the land and will wait while the county seeks a grant for the purchase. County Parks Director Brian Bailey says the county has been interested in the land for some time.

The Parks and Recreation Commission has set up a hearing to let people comment on the plan, it's scheduled for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Love Creek. Purchasing this land has been in the Commission's plan for some time, and since the 1980's the county has leased part of it to provide cross country skiing for people wanting access to a trail called the Outer Loop. The grant application is due by April 15th.
