Berrien County Council for Children Launches Capital Campaign For Expansion

The Berrien County Council for Children is launching a capital campaign to pay for an expansion of their facility and services. The addition to their current building in the 49-hundred block of Niles Road in Royalton Township is estimated to cost $960,000, and the project will include more therapy rooms, more play therapy space, group therapy rooms for teens and parents, a private waiting area and more.

Listen:

That's executive director Jamie Rossow, who says they have outgrown their facility, as the number of children being helped by the Council for Children has gone up a staggering 742% in just the past decade. From 2002 to 2013, the number of girls being helped by the facility skyrocketed from 41 to 364, and the number of boys went fro 26 to 200 last year. Rossow tells us the organization works with area police and the prosecutor's office to talk to children who may have been abused.

Listen:

Rossow said having more rooms will expand the services they can offer to children and other family members who are not accused of abuse.

To get involved in the campaign, Rossow asks people to check out their website at berrienchild.org, which includes the expansion plans and information on donating.
