Benton Township Approves Bond Sale For Sewer Project



Benton Township is moving forward with a project to upgrade its sanitary sewer system. At a special meeting Thursday afternoon, the township board unanimously approved a $3.5 million bond sale to offset some of the costs of the overhaul. Township Superintendent Elden Piontek says they will be replacing, repairing and upgrading about 10% of the system.

Because the township is selling bonds, Piontek says residents won't be asked to pony up much in additional funds.

Shovels are expected to be in the ground in August, with the project likely to wrap up before the end of the year. Bids are likely to be approved by the township board later this month.
