Benton Harbor residents will vote this spring whether or not they want James Hightower to remain Mayor through the end of his current term. After the Berrien County clerk's office verified 402 recall petition signatures against him, a recall election has been scheduled for May 6. Organizers only needed 393 valid signatures. Local reports suggest the effort was launched due to the Mayor's opposition of last year's income tax campaign. Hightower, who is in his third year as Benton Harbor Mayor, could challenge the ruling in court. His current term runs through the end of 2015. Thursday morning the Mayor will make an announcement during a press conference at City Hall. It's unknown what the announcement will entail. That begins at 11 a.m.
