BHAS Board Discusses Balanced Calendar

To lengthen or not to lengthen, that is the question regarding the Benton Harbor Area Schools academic calendar. During its Committee meeting the School Board discussed the district being in compliance with priority schools, which is dictated to increase its learning time.

With year round schooling Superintendent Dr. Leonard Seawood says Title grants would keep-steady the cost of teacher pay and transportation. A bonus to going year round is children would be off the streets keeping busy, while having balanced meals. Though the downside, he says, are high school students tend to work during the summer months and take vacations. As Seawood put it, it’s just "food for thought" at this moment.
