BH Holds Public Hearing Over 2013 Community Development Action Plan



The City of Benton Harbor has $200,000 planned to be spent on improving Union Park. A public hearing regarding how the Community Development Block Grant money will be spent this year happened at City Hall Monday night. Nearly $450,000 is planned to be allocated, the brunt of that will go toward Public Facility Improvements, or parks. Director of Community Development Regina Sistruck says the ball field is getting a face lift.

Commissioner Marcus Muhammad says it's nice to see upgraded parks but feels the money could be distributed to something more important.

Muhammad mentioned potholes as one example. The second largest allocation comes from Section 108, for roughly $120,000. This section has to do with three defaulted loans which won't mature until 2018. The city still being paying them off because the companies they were issued to have since gone bankrupt.
