The commission specified raising the new wage to $10.10 per hour, in accordance with President Obama's proposal on the federal level, it passed unanimously. The coalition 'Raise Michigan' is leading the state-wide petition drive and wants the minimum wage raised to $10.10 by 2017. It hopes to collect more than 258,000 signatures by the end of May in order to send the measure to the Legislature. Last month Congressman Fred Upton, who in the past has voted for hikes to the minimum wage, said we will most likely see the issue on the November ballot in Michigan.
