B.H. City Commission Supports Renewing General Operating Millage



Going back to how things used to be, that's what the Benton Harbor City Commission is proposing to do in regards to taxes. The commission is passing a resolution supporting to restore the city charter's taxing authority and to restore the ten general operating mills that expired in 2011. Mayor James Hightower says this will eliminate the need for a special assessment currently imposed on citizens.

Hightower says restoring the millage would act as "a do over" from last years election, when its renewal failed to pass. The proposal will be voted on at a special election set for Tuesday, May 7th.
