A woman has come forward in confessing to be the starter of last week's high rise apartment fire in Benton Harbor. Captain Dan McGinnis with the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety says 32-year old Monica Antoinette Smith was a resident of the River Terrace complex.
She told authorities there was an argument between herself and another occupant, Dwight Wilder. McGinnis says Smith allegedly set fire to the furniture. Security officials at the complex are estimating the cost of damage.
Smith was arrested Monday on a two count felony warrant for Arson to an Occupied Dwelling, and for Malicious Destruction of Property over $20,000. Smith was booked in the Berrien County Jail.
