Are You Prepared For A Flood?

As Michigan warms up after this winter's record-breaking snow and cold, the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division is encouraging Michiganders to prepare for flooding in recognition of National Flood Safety Awareness Week.

Listen:

Officer Ron Leix says to prepare for potential flooding create an emergency preparedness kit, store important documents and valuables off the floor, and learn how to safely turn off electricity and gas lines in your home. Citizens are also encouraged to purchase flood insurance. While flooding is most prevalent near low-lying areas and bodies of water, it can occur almost anywhere, including near small streams, creeks and even basements. National Flood Safety Awareness Week lasts through Saturday.
