Plans are to close the north pier for 2015 to make the repairs to the inner and outer lights, and open them to the public in 2016. Judd says they need to continue to secure donations large and small.

The fundraising was started by another $100,000 donation from Katie Byrns McClendon and her husband Aubrey McClendon. He is the CEO of American Energy Partners, while she is a granddaughter of Whirlpool co-founder Frederick S. Upton. Judd says they want to have the full $2 million raised by the end of the year to allow the city of St. Joseph to move forward with renovations to the lighthouses in 2015.
