A Berrien County substitute teacher is getting some recognition for her entry into a video contest. Lauren Mott teaches grades K through 12 at Bridgman and River Valley Schools. She tells us she came to the area last year from Chicago.

“I had a summer home and I decided to move into it and make it my permanent residence,” Mott said.

Mott entered a video contest run by EduStaff, a company that provides subs to schools. The theme was “Why I like to substitute teach.” Mott rapped an answer about how she likes the students. She told us she tries to maintain a positive atmosphere in the classroom each day, beginning with a positive quote.

“I feel the kids have such a good, wholesome energy,” Mott said. “As long as you come in with a smile and you’re excited to be at work, they’re excited to be engaged and do their work. It takes a very fun atmosphere.”

Mott tells us she heard from EduStaff that she’s won. She got a gift card and her video will be featured by EduStaff for Teacher Appreciation Week May 7 through 11.
