Students Attend Mock Interviews With Whirlpool

37 at-risk students from Benton Harbor, Hartford, Dowagiac, and Cassopolis have had a chance to learn what it’s like to interview for a job at Whirlpool thanks to the Youth Solutions program. Youth Solutions Engagement Director Jan Ennis tells WSJM News the students took part in mock interviews with Whirlpool Wednesday.

“These Whirlpool team members are volunteers,” Ennis said. “They represent professional career paths in anywhere from marketing, HR, and engineering.”

Ennis tells us the students had to draw on skills in communication and relationships to succeed. The Whirlpool volunteers also benefit.

“They have a great time meeting our students, and often times, we find that some of these relationships that develop during Mock Interview Day carry into the community through some mentoring opportunities,” Ennis said.

This was the eighth year Whirlpool volunteers worked with Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates, which oversees Youth Solutions, for local mock interviews. Youth Solutions connects young people with mentors who can help them graduate and pursue job training or higher education. It has a 98% graduation rate.
