Survey Considers Support For Teen Mothers

Most adults with children feel that state support for pregnant teens is a good investment in the baby’s health. That’s according to a new national study by C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan. Study co-director Sarah Clark spoke with Michigan News Network about her findings.

“About two thirds of the respondents said that the state should definitely provide medical care for the baby, and almost as many said that the state should provide medical care for the pregnant teen herself,” Clark said.

Clark says most say pregnant teens should be required to attend prenatal or parenting classes in order to receive state assistance. The poll also found that states should do more to require financial support from the baby’s father.
