The group Michigan Open Carry is suing the Michigan State Police to clarify how the department uses money raised from concealed carry fees. President Tom Lambert spoke with Michigan News Network about the effort.

“In the 2015-2016 fiscal year, they brought in a little more than $8 million,” Lambert said. “Consistently for the last few years, they report their statutory obligations are about 25% of what they bring in.”

Lambert says Michigan State Police make general information on spending available online. However, his group wants to get a more detailed accounting of how the concealed carry money is used.
