Sheriff’s Department Stepping Up Saturday Patrols

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department will have its eye on drivers this weekend as southwest Michigan celebrates St. Patrick’s Day. Chief Deputy Robert Boyce tells WSJM News it’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” time.

“In partnership with the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety, the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety, and the Bridgman City Police Department, we’ll be increasing patrols on Saturday, March 17 for the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations,” Boyce said.

Boyce tells us a one-two-three punch of having St. Patty’s Day on a Saturday while the March Madness action is going on could make for a busy weekend for police. He says you can be arrested just for appearing to be impaired. His advice — have a designated driver if you’re drinking, or call for a car from a ride sharing service.
