Mum’s the word from Benton Harbor Area School Trustees on the status of Superintendent Shelly Walker. She remains on paid administrative leave while an investigation by a legal firm continues. At a Tuesday meeting, the school board had two closed sessions with attorneys, one of which was regarding the federal safety grant investigation. Trustee Joseph Taylor couldn’t comment on the Walker investigation.

“We don’t know what that investigation is going to entail,” Taylor told WSJM News. “What we do know is that we don’t want to speak on what can happen or may happen because there is still an investigation. We want to make sure that she does have her due process so we do the right thing by being quiet.”

Taylor said parents shouldn’t interpret the situation as a sign of instability. While Walker is off, Assistant Superintendent Patricia Robinson is filling in, and Taylor said Dr. Walker remains superintendent.
