The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department continues to help local first responders deal with flooding. Undersheriff Chuck Heit tells WSJM News the department was helping to evacuate some Royalton Township residents on Thursday in the area of of Linden and Derfla Drives. The area had water surrounding it, leading to the rescue of about 25 residents.

“They were not able to get out with the condition there of the roads, so we’ve got one of our flat bottom boats from the marine unit there assisting in the area,” Heit said.

There was also an evacuation of the Meadow Streams Mobile Home Park in Sodus Township being handled by the Sodus Township Fire Department with help from the Benton Township Fire Department and Berrien County Animal Control. Police tell us both evacuations were precautionary. The American Red Cross will work to help anyone who needs it. Meanwhile, the city of Niles set up a special webpage for resident affected by floods. It can be found right here.
