This is Love Week in communities across southwest Michigan. That means a Kalamazoo area church is going to a different community each day to give away food from its pantry and backpacks filled with school supplies. Valley Family Church Executive Pastor of Community Care Matt Munson tells WSJM News they make a party out of it.

“We’ll take over a park or a school playground or something along those lines, and set up all kids of inflatables,” Munson said. “We give away free groceries, a bag full of groceries and a bunch of produce for every family that comes through, and then at every site we also give away backpacks.”

Munson tells us they’ve been staging Love Week for about six summers now, and it’s enabled the church to reach the lives of thousands. On Monday, the volunteers were out in downtown Lawrence, and they’ll be in Paw Paw on Thursday at Tyler Field from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Everyone’s welcome.
