A Little Free Library will be dedicated next week in Benton Harbor. Little Free Libraries are small boxes on a pole that are stationed in places like parks or in front of schools. Folks can drop off or take books from them. The one in Benton Harbor is sponsored by the Berrien County Democratic Party, with the party’s Julee Laurent telling WSJM News it’s all about promoting literacy.

“The Little Free Library is great because it’s an international non-profit that inspires a love of reading for kids, and it builds a well-rounded and diverse library in little communities,” Laurent said.

Benton Harbor’s new Little Free Library will be unveiled at the Arts Park, which is across from Water Street Glassworks in the Arts District, next Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Laurent says everyone’s welcome to come and contribute a book.

Laurent added:

“The Berrien County Democratic Party is donating this little library to the Benton Harbor public library in support of their mission to increase literacy and support the vital services they provide to our community. The library plans to try to get three more little libraries placed in the city. If your organization is interested in sponsoring a little library for the Benton Harbor public library give them a call.”
