Berrien Health Department Offering Free Vision And Hearing Screenings To Kids

The Berrien County Health Department is once again offering free vision and hearing screenings for children 3 and a half years of age and older about to enter school. Spokesperson Gillian Conrad tells WSJM News all kids must be screened, according to state law.

“The health department is in charge of making sure that our school children are ready to learn, and that their vision and hearing are up to snuff before their first day of school,” Conrad said.

Conrad says it’s important kids get those screenings so they can have what they need to do well in the classroom. The screenings are available to anyone, and you can get a list of the dates, locations, and times below. They start this month and run through the summer.

Watervliet South School, Watervliet, Thursday March 23, 2017 4:00-6:30pm
New Buffalo Elementary, New Buffalo, Thursday April 13, 2017, 1:00-3:30pm
Countryside Academy, Millburg, Friday April 28, 2017, 1:30-4:00pm
Bridgman Elementary School, Bridgman, Friday May 5, 2017, 8:30-11:30am
Coloma Elementary, Coloma, Thursday May 11, 2017, 8:30-11:30am and 1:30-4:00pm
