You can consider this the start for a push of legalized marijuana use in Michigan via the 2018 ballot. More than 300 people will be at the Lansing Radisson on Sunday for the “Capital Conference.” Organizer Rick Thompson says the first order of business is to help medical marijuana businesses navigate the latest rules changes at the state and local levels.

“So that communities can feel comfortable having a registered, regulated industry in their downtown district, or in their commercial district,” Thompson said.

Thompson says you can expect pro-pot groups to use the event to map out a strategy for a 2018 ballot initiative to legalize pot.
